KA PO: LEI HULU SCANS
In collaboration with natural dye artist Kristin Baucom, these printed works were created using a flatbed scanner in a dark room, inspired by her ongoing
“Flora Scans: Captured Essence” series.
Through the high-resolution scans, the lei hulu becomes both subject and metaphor. Emerging luminous against the black expanse of pō, the feathers suggest a passage from darkness into light. For Phillips, lei hulu embodies resilience and transformation: a practice that illuminates even the deepest of shadows.
